A Quick Summary…

After the death of her grandmother, Lennox Osseous is chosen by the bones that every witch 🧙 in her family before her has yielded. Not ever thinking that she’d be the chosen one of her family to inherit the bones and their power, Lennox is thrown into a world of magic she never prepared for when meeting Rogan Kendrick 💚. After the disappearance of his brother, Rogan claims something is amiss in the magical world, and that Lennox could be this unknown force's next target. Lennox and Rogan embark on a mission to discover the reason why witches in the magical community are disappearing, and quickly find that there is much more to the story than they ever thought. This is a contemporary urban fantasy that is fast-paced, hilarious, entertaining, and fun 😎.

Our Thoughts…

This was a very easy and enjoyable read that both of us couldn’t put down! We loved Lennox and found her to be a really relatable character. It’s rare to find a book where the dialogue is relatively close to how we actually speak, but this one definitely fits the bill. Our favorite thing about both The Bone Witch and The Blood Witch is the humor 🤣. This is by far the funniest book we have read; Lennox’s inner thoughts are hilarious and we found ourselves having secondhand embarrassment when reading some of the scenes 😳. Ivy Asher makes even the most mundane scenes (Lennox trying to get a coffee maker to work ☕️) hysterical, and there were multiple times both of us laughed out loud when reading. Although there is not a ton of spice in either book (the second book definitely goes further), there is enough romance and tension to keep you interested and we ultimately were hoping for Lennox and Rogan to both let their guards down with each other 👩‍❤️‍👨.

While Rogan was an entertaining character with a good backstory that gets even more richly developed in The Blood Witch, the real star of these books is Lennox. She is not perfect and that is exactly what we love about her. Both of us really enjoy reading a main character that has a lot of relatable and human qualities ✨. She makes mistakes, embarasses herself in public, and says things she shouldn’t, but that is exactly what makes Lennox so likeable. The plot was super easy to follow, and we felt like this was one of the most smooth starts to a series we have read. We didn’t go into it being confused about the world, and it is all very straightforward which makes for an easy and refreshing read 🤩. The magical world Ivy creates is super interesting and we found the various types of witches and their difference in abilities really cool (Katherine wants to be a bone witch 🦴 and Vidhi wants to be a blood witch 🩸). If you’re looking for a relatively short urban fantasy series that holds humor above all, then The Bone Witch and The Blood Witch are a must read! Fair warning: each book ends on a pretty big cliffhanger 😬 and we cannot wait for the third book in the series to see where the story goes!

“If you go straight up Karen and ask to speak to a manager, you’re on your own,”

“‘I want to have your babies,’” I state matter-of-factly, opening my blissed-out gaze and leveling an arduous look on the coffee machine. Rogan barks out a laugh. ‘Should I leave the two of you alone?’”
